Technical Services Branch Directorate manages processes related to technical services such as the selection, procurement, and cataloging of library materials. The sub-services are as follows:
1. Acquisition Service: This service handles the selection of printed books and journals, bibliographic checks for acquisition requests, creation of purchase lists, post-acquisition acceptance and control processes, and acceptance of printed books and journals received from distribution, donations, and transfers. Additionally, barcodes and movable property labels are affixed to acquired printed publications, and ownership stamps are applied to specific pages and margins.
2. Cataloging and Classification Service: In this service, catalog records for acquired printed books and journals are created in accordance with the Library of Congress Classification System, Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, and Library of Congress Subject Headings. These records are then stored in the cataloging module database of the library automation program using Machine-Readable Cataloging Rules. Printed books and journals are cataloged, given subject headings and call sign numbers, and then their covers are scanned. A spine label containing the call sign number and a barcode label, along with a chip containing the inventory number, are affixed to these books and journals. Once the processing is complete, the books and journals are displayed in a showcase cabinet.
3. Electronic Publications Service: This service handles the selection, testing, evaluation, creation of purchase and subscription lists for electronic publications, acceptance and control of acquired publications, and ensuring their accessibility. It also manages the institutional open access archive.
